KITANO KOBE

Kitano Kobe is famous as a town in residences of foreign settlers, so-called IJINKAN. This is because of "Treaty of Amity and Commerce" with United States, United Kingdom, Russia, French and Netherlands. It was on 29 July 1858. After that Japan opened the ports of Hyogo Sea Port (Kobe Sea Port) in 1863/1867. Since this time, except World War II time, many foreigners have stayed at Kitano Kobe.
